I wonder if we would ever leave a Christmas gift under the tree, never touched, never opened. Most would say, absolutely not-so I ask why do we not fully embrace and utilize the gifts God has given us. Perhaps it’s because we really don’t know. One such gift is the ability to think like Jesus. Somehow we lean on “being human” rather than trusting what’s already in us!
“13 When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.14 But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. 15 Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. 16 For, Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ. ” (1 Corinthians 2:13-16)
I parallel this issue to a body that forms beautifully once we make the commitment to regular exercise and a healthy eating regiment. Consistency and commitment in these areas is a guarantee for the results we desire. The same is true for God’s word. If we will commit to consistent meditation upon God’s Word and listening to the Holy Spirit, who is our guide into all truth (John 16:13), we can have complete access to the mind of Christ. Simply put, the more time we spend with Jesus, the more we will begin to understand his way of thinking.
As with any relationship we purpose to have deeper meaning, we should be consistently working on it. One result should be that we become familiar with the other person’s likes and dislikes. The same is true about our relationship with Christ. We will see what He sees and hear what He hears. We will know what He cares about and we will know what He considers insignificant, petty, or distracting.
So important is that we will witness how He responds to problems, criticism, truth, exhaustion, excitement, expectations, disappointments, hunger, poverty, love, laughter, accusations, manipulation, sorrow, sin, tension, distrust, redemption, rejection, legalism, ritual, religion, hypocrisy, happiness, joy, and we will learn what He thinks about our future.
All of this is will teach us to think from God’s perspective, to engage the mind of Christ available to us through the Holy Sprit, which was given to us as a precious gift to guide us and keep us until Christ’s return. Will you continue to keep your gift wrapped and never tap into the benefits it has for you in every aspect of daily living? Quit allowing your mind to be tossed with every wave that comes your way. Make your mind upright!!! Open the gift and see that God loves and trusts you enough to give you the mind of Christ. Yes-it’s in you waiting to be used. Yes, your mind is already MADE UP!
